Have you been to the Oregon Zoo lately? Chances are that if you live in Portland and have children you have! I hadn’t been for a few years and this year G is to an age where he is able to appreciate such a trip. He recognized almost all of the animals and loved making their sounds. I really enjoyed the new trail area going from the mountains to the lakes and ocean. I was looking forward to the larakeets and the photo ops of him feeding them but by the time we got there, the syrup that they feed the birds was sold out. It was a little disappointing. Also, almost all of the animals were sleeping! Every exhibit was like an episode of “where’s waldo”. Little G really did seem to enjoy himself, but by far, his favorite part of the entire day was the ride on the zoo train. He was just beaming the entire ride.
He is also keenly aware of the power of photography. The entire day was filled with, “mommy take picture of bear? mommy take picture of tiger?” and then as soon as we got home, he started with, “picture of train? picture of bears? pictures of tiger?”, and he loves looking through all the photos of the day and talking about what we saw and reliving his adventures. I’m looking forward to when he can take the pictures himself to see his perspective on life.
